Ironman of the Day: Carrie Brooks

  • Follow Other sports

NAME: Carrie Brooks

AGE: 33

FROM: Martinez

OCCUPATION: Lakeside High School art teacher, assistant cross country coach

EXPERIENCE: Brooks started running at the end of 2004 because of a little sibling rivalry with her sister, Katie Hansen. The pair signed up for Team in Training, and they eventually ran half marathons and full marathons together.

When Hansen started competing in triathlons, Brooks joined her. Brooks, who has competed in the past three ESi Ironman 70.3 Augusta events, continues to work on her running during practices with her cross country team.

GAME PLAN: Brooks simply wants to be done by 5 p.m., though she’s clocked in well under the eight-hour time limit before. She goes off in the second-to-last wave, with only the relay teams behind her age group. “I feel confident about the running part. This year is just about finishing for me.”
