Mims was one of several fighters featured in an upcoming reality TV show called Georgia Boys: Grits N’ Glory, and production manager Rich Seidlitz said the show’s Web site, www.gaboysgritsnglory.com, is accepting donations for Mims’ family.
“Tyrone left behind five children,” Seidlitz said. “His mother is working to take care of them, but she just lost her son. It’s absolutely terrible.”
Mims’ fight was one of several scheduled to take place at Omar Shrine Temple in Mt. Pleasant Saturday night as part of “Fight Night @ The Point VI.”
After the fight, Mims collapsed and was pronounced dead about 9:30 p.m. at Medical University Hospital, according to The Associated Press. No official cause of death has been reported.
“We have no idea what caused it,” Seidlitz said Sunday evening. “It would be wrong for us to speculate. We’re going to wait for the autopsy. There’s one scheduled for tomorrow.”
