EUGENE, Ore. --- Former Lakeside High and University of Georgia standout Reese Hoffa easily qualified for the shot put finals with a victory in the prelims during the U.S. Olympic Trials on Saturday.

Hoffa, a five-time All-American for the Bulldogs from 1998-2001, lifted his second throw 69 feet, 7 ½ inches to win the shot put by more than three feet in the pouring rain.  Fellow Nike throwers Christian Cantwell (66-5.25) and Ryan Whiting (65-5) rounded out the top three as 12 throwers qualified for the event finals.

Hoffa won the 2008 Trials before finishing seventh at the 2008 Games in Beijing.  The shot put finals will be at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
