Charleston ends Augusta’s streak
In Charleston, S.C., Charleston beat Augusta 11-5, ending the GreenJackets’ three-game winning streak.
Anderson Feliz had three hits – including a three-run triple in the second inning to power the RiverDogs.
Kelby Tomlinson, Elliott Blair and Michael Mergenthaler had two hits each for Augusta (4-3), which plays its home opener tonight against Savannah.
Catawba turns back USC Aiken
In Salisbury, N.C., Catawba scored all of its runs in the sixth inning in a 6-3 victory over USC Aiken in a battle of top 20 teams.
Ty Barkell had two hits and two RBI for the Pacers.
Catawba, which is ranked 16th in Division II, is now 33-10 while No. 11 USC Aiken drops to 26-13.
• In Clemson, S.C., Brandon Stephens scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to give Georgia an 8-7 victory over Clemson. The Bulldogs rallied from a 7-2 deficit.
• In Florence, S.C., Stephen Tarkenton had two hits and two RBI as Francis Marion upset No. 9 South Carolina 5-4.
Robinson is tied for second place
In Southport, N.C., David Robinson, of Sandersville, Ga., is tied for second place after the first round of the eGolf Tour’s Championship at St. James Plantation.
Robinson and three other golfers are three shots behind former Missouri golfer Peter Malnati, who shot 9-under-par 63 at the Reserve Club at St. James Plantation.
Joining Robinson at 66 are T.J. Howe, Chesson Hadley and Jonas Enander Hedin.
Of the other locals, Alex Hamilton had 74, Brad Arrington 75, Tarik Can 75, Stephen Poole 76, Mitch Krywulycz 79 and Roberto Diaz 80.
Pacers split pair against Brevard
In Brevard, N.C., India Kornegay and Kaitlyn White helped USC Aiken split a doubleheader with Brevard
USC Aiken won the opener 6-0 behind Kornegay, but lost the second game 5-2.
Kornegay (19-8) tied the school record for wins. She struck out eight and allowed five hits in her complete game victory.
White combined for seven hits in the doubleheader for the Lady Pacers (24-11).
• USC Aiken is ranked fifth in the inaugural NCAA Division II Softball Southeast Region Rankings, which are used to determine the region participants from the Southeast Region for the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.
Eight teams from the Southeast Region will receive an invitation to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.
Baffert’s horses tabbed favorites
In Hot Springs, Ark., two Bob Baffert-trained horses top the field for the $1 million Arkansas Derby, with Bodemeister the favorite and Secret Circle the second choice in a field of 11 3-year-olds.
Rebel Stakes winner Secret Circle was made the 5-2 second choice behind 9-5 favorite Bodemeister.
