Lady Jags take 15th win in row

In Wingate, N.C., Augusta State set a school record for consecutive victories with a doubleheader sweep of Wingate.

The Lady Jaguars (21-5) have won 15 games in a row. The previous mark of 14 was set during the 2010 season.

The Lady Jaguars won the opener 8-0 as Jessica Thornton had a three-run homer and Emily Headrick hurled a two-hitter.

In the nightcap, Augusta State won 3-2 on Kacee Camp’s go-ahead single in the ninth inning. Headrick pitched the ninth inning to earn the save.

• In Aiken, Lenoir-Rhyne swept a doubleheader from USC Aiken, winning the opener 5-0 and taking the nightcap 9-3.

Kaitlyn White had two hits in the opener for the Pacers.

White, Kayla Denham and Nicole Borden had two hits each in Game 2 for the Pacers (10-8).

Pacers shut out visiting Saints

In Aiken, four USC Aiken pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout in the 14th-ranked Pacers’ 8-0 victory over the Limestone Saints.

Starter Thomas McLeod went six innings, allowing both hits. Sam Daniel, Abram Cartledge and Jake Padgett each pitched one inning.

Nick Aranas and Tyler Bourdo had two hits, including homers, and finished with three RBI each for the Pacers (16-6).

Josh Miller had a three-run double and Ty Barkell had two hits.

Patrick Lillis pitched six strong innings, Jonathan Richey and Daryl Wilson combined for four hits, four runs and three RBI in Paine’s 8-4 win over St. Augustine.

Regions series announces dates

The dates for six of the 2012 Regions Bank Amateur Series tournaments have been confirmed.

The 10-tournament spring/summer series will start with the Sunbelt Nissan/Golf Capital Invitational April 28-29 at Mount Vintage Plantation.

The other tournaments and their dates are the First Tee of Aiken Invitational at Houndslake County Club on May 12-13; the Camellia Classic at Belle Meade Country Club on June 2-3; the North Augusta Exchange Club/Persimmon Hill Classic at Persimmon Hill Golf Club June 16-17; the Ping Regions Bank Amateur Series Invitational at Gordon Lakes on July 21-22 and the Jones Creek Classic on Aug. 18-19.

Tournaments that have yet to finalize their dates are the City of Augusta Match Play Championship at The Patch, the Augusta City Amateur at
Forest Hills Golf Club and the Orville White Cup at Midland Valley Country Club.

• Former Duke golfer Adam Long and Zimbabwe’s Bruce McDonald share the lead after the first round of the eGolf Tour’s Pine Needles Classic, which is being played at two sites.

Long and McDonald shot their 7-under-par 64 at the par-71 Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

The other course being used is the par-72 Seven Lakes Country Club in West End, N.C.

David Robinson is the top local player after 70 at Pine Needles. Mitch Krywulycz (71) and Stephen Poole (72) also
played Pine Needles. Brad Arrington (76) and Scott Usher (77) played Seven Lakes.

Peach Challenge is set for Sunday

More than 1,200 school/recreational Cheer, All Star Cheer and Dance athletes from across the Southeast will compete in the Georgia Peach Challenge at James Brown Arena on Sunday. The event begins at noon.
