Three share lead at eGolf tourney
In Okatie, S.C., Chris Naegel, Ryan Nelson and Joey McLister are tied for the 36-hole lead in the eGolf Tour’s Oldfield Open.
Naegel (70 on Thursday), Nelson (68) and McLister (68) are at 6-under 136 for the tournament.
David Robinson, who had 72 on Thursday and is tied for 10th place at 139, is the top local golfer.
Scott Usher (70) and Stephen Poole (72) are tied for 38th place at 142 and Mitch Krywulycz (70) is tied for 51st place at 143.
Alex Hamilton (72 for 147) missed the cut.
Regional event set for Saturday
Augusta’s ATA Martial Arts will play host to an American Taekwando Association Regional Tournament on Saturday.
More than 400 competitors from across the Southeast are scheduled to compete at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The opening ceremony is at 8:30 a.m., followed by the first event at 9.
The tournament will feature competition for Tiny Tigers (ages 3-6), Juniors (U17), adults and seniors (60-over).
There is a $5-per-person admission charge. Children 4-under will be admitted free.
Lady Pacers win their PBC opener
In Pembroke, N.C., the USC Aiken women opened Peach Belt Conference play with a 6-3 victory over UNC Pembroke.
The win snapped a two-match losing streak for the Lady Pacers (3-2, 1-0 PBC).
• In Marselle, France, Mardy Fish was knocked out of the Open 13 by French qualifier Albano Olivetti 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the second round.
• In Buenos Aires, Argentina, seeded players Gilles Simon, of France, and Fernando Verdasco, of Spain, were ousted in the second round of the Copa Claro.
Carlos Berlocq, of Argentina, beat the third-seeded Simon 6-2, 6-1, and Igor Andreev, of Russia, defeated No. 7 seed Verdasco 7-6 (3), 6-3 at the clay-court event.
Argentina’s David Nalbandian defeated No. 5 Monaco 6-3, 6-1.
• In Memphis, Tenn., Sam Querrey beat seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson 7-6 (4), 6-4 to move into the quarterfinals at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships.
Querrey, the tournament’s 2010 champion and a wild card entry this week, will face No. 3 seed Radek Stepanek, of the Czech Republic, who defeated American Ryan Sweeting 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Querrey, who entered the week ranked 99th in the world, is on a climb back up the rankings after right elbow surgery in June.
Exhibition roster includes 2 stars
Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey are on the U.S. national team roster for next week’s exhibition game at Italy and could play together for the first time since Jurgen Klinsmann was hired as coach last summer.
The two were among 21 players selected for Wednesday’s match in Genoa.
Borussia Dortmund forward Terrence Boyd was the only newcomer on the roster announced Thursday. He had been selected last week for the American under-23 roster for an exhibition against Mexico, also Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who made seven starts for Aston Villa while Shay Given was injured in December and January, was selected for the first time since November 2010.
Just four players are from Major League Soccer, which is in its preseason.
Italy will announce its roster Sunday.
