North Augustan takes AJGA title
In Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., North Augusta’s Matt NeSmith won the American Junior Golf Association’s Polo Golf Junior Classic on Friday.
He defeated Parker Derby, of Columbus, Ga., 4 and 3 in the final at PGA National Resort & Spa, site of the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic
NeSmith, a senior at North Augusta High who has signed to play golf at South Carolina, never trailed in the championship match.
It was the first AJGA victory for NeSmith. The tournament started with 78 boys from 27 states, Puerto Rico and 12 countries.
• In Hainan, China, the Irish team of Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell shot 4-under-par 68 in alternate-shot play for a share of the lead with Australia after the second round of the World Cup.
McIlroy and McDowell matched Australia’s Brendan Jones and Richard Green (70) at 13-under on Mission Hills’ Blackstone Course.
Scotland’s Martin Laird and Stephen Gallacher are a stroke back after 69.
Americans Gary Woodland and Matt Kuchar are tied for fourth at 10-under after 70.
• In Coolum, Australia’s Marcus Fraser shot 7-under-par 65 to take a two-stroke lead over Bubba Watson after the second round of the Australian PGA.
Fraser is 11-under on the Hyatt Regency resort course.
Watson closed with a three-putt bogey for 68.
• In Johannesburg, Steven O’Hara shot 4-under-par 68 to take a one-stroke lead over Retief Goosen and Merrick Bremner after the second round of the South African Open.
O’Hara is 11-under at Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate. Goosen and Bremner had 68s.

Lady Jags suffer overtime defeat
In Ettrick, Va., Stephanie Harper scored 28 points as Elizabeth City State beat Augusta State 83-78 in overtime in the Virginia State Chick-fil-A Classic.
After Augusta State’s Tiffany Jaecks hit two free throws to put the Lady Jaguars up 66-63 with 16 seconds left, Harper hit a 3-pointer with four seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Jemimah Ashby led Augusta State (1-2) with 26 points. Laci Schreiber added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
• In Salisbury, N.C., Hannah DeGraffinreed had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 23 USC Aiken past Catawba 62-53 on the first day of the Comfort Suites Classic.
Kayla Harris added 14 points for the Lady Pacers (3-1).
Kurt Busch fined for his meltdown
NASCAR fined Kurt Busch $50,000 on Friday for his poor behavior during the Sprint Cup finale last weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
NASCAR cited both an obscene gesture Busch made inside his car and him being verbally abusive to a reporter in fining the 2004 Cup champion.
Berdych rallies past Djokovic
In London, top-ranked Novak Djokovic was eliminated from the ATP World Tour Finals after Tomas Berdych rallied from a set and a break down to beat David Ferrer 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 and grab the last semifinal spot at the season-ending tournament.
Djokovic lost to fellow Serb Janko Tipsarevic to finish round-robin play with a 1-2 record, but would have gone through to the last four if Ferrer had beaten Berdych in the late match.
