In Birmingham, England, Lakeside High School graduate Reese Hoffa finished seventh in the shot put at today's Aviva Grand Prix Diamond League meet.

Hoffa, who also starred at the University of Georgia, had a throw of 65 feet, 11 inches. Canadian Dylan Armstrong won the competition with a toss of 70 feet, 81 inches.

Asafa Powell overcame a tentative start to win the 100 meters in 9.91 seconds, adding to his confidence going into the world championships next month.

He was delayed by a false start and then a faulty start before striding to victory ahead of fellow Jamaicans Nesta Carter and Michael Frater.
