USC Aiken brings in a pair of transfers

USC Aiken head women's basketball coach Mike Brandt announced the addition of transfers Tiffani Moody and Lexy Williams.

Moody spent one year at Ohio Valley, while Williams returns to Aiken to play for the Pacers after a redshirt season at Georgia Southern. Moody is a 6-foot-5 center and Williams is a 5-foot-8 guard.

- Auburn's basketball team has lost two more players for the upcoming season.

Coach Tony Barbee says signees Luke Cothron and Shawn Kemp Jr. failed to qualify academically and won't play this season. Barbee told the Mobile Press-Register Thursday that he hopes they'll join the program at some point.

Cothron was considered perhaps the Tigers' top signee. The Huntsville, Ala., native averaged 31 points and 13 rebounds last season for Flora Macdonald Academy in North Carolina.

Jackets' game with Savannah canceled

In Savannah, Ga., the Augusta GreenJackets' season series finale against the Savannah Sand Gnats was canceled on Friday night because of rain.

The game will not be made up, making it the second cancellation for the GreenJackets this season.

Nadal suffers loss in Cincinnati event

In Mason, Ohio, an erratic Rafael Nadal was upset by unseeded Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters.

Earlier Friday, fourth-seeded Andy Murray , playing his eighth afternoon match in 10 days, lost to unseeded Mardy Fish 6-7 (7), 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Fish will meet Andy Roddick in the tournament's first all-American semifinal since Roddick lost 7-5, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (2) to Andre Agassi in 2004. The ninth-seeded Roddick eliminated No. 2 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5 on Friday.

West suspended 10 games after arrest

Free agent guard Delonte West has been suspended without pay for 10 games after pleading guilty last month to weapons charges.

Maryland authorities said he was carrying two loaded handguns, a loaded shotgun and an 81-inch Bowie knife while speeding on a three-wheel motorcycle on the Capital Beltway last September.

West played for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. The Minnesota Timberwolves waived him Aug. 3 after acquiring West in a trade.

West received a home detention sentence that includes flexibility to travel to games. The league said Friday that if he signs with a team, his suspension would begin with the first game of the regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play.

Phelps takes third gold at Pan Pacific

In Irvine, Calif., Michael Phelps led all the way in winning the 100-meter butterfly at the Pan Pacific championships on Friday night, earning his third gold medal of the meet.

The world and Olympic champion touched in 50.86 seconds, erasing American Ian Crocker 's meet record of 51.47 set four years ago.

Phelps posted the year's fastest time of 50.65 in winning the title at U.S. nationals earlier this month.

Park Tae-kwan, of South Korea, rallied to win the 400 freestyle with the world's fastest time this year. Park won in 4:44.73.

U.S. teammates Dana Vollmer and Christine Magnuson went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly.

Chloe Sutton , of the United States, won the women's 400 free, touching in 4:05.19.

Penguins agree to terms with forward

Pittsburgh signed former Philadelphia forward Arron Asham to a $700,000, one-year contract. Asham had 10 goalsfor the Flyers last season.
