Jaguars ranked 6th in new national poll
The Augusta State men moved up three spots to No. 6 in the second Golf World /Nike Golf Coaches national poll of the spring season.
The Jaguars won the Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C., on March 2 to begin their spring season, then finished third this week in the General Jim Hackler Championship at TPC Myrtle Beach in Murrells Inlet, S.C.
Oklahoma State is No. 1. South Carolina is 13th, Georgia Tech is 15th, Georgia is 16th and Clemson is 17th.
- The NCAA fined Nevada's athletic department $1,500, placed both its golf teams on probation for three years and took away a scholarship but cleared the school's other sports of any rule violations and concluded there was no proof an ex-coach gambled on college games.
The NCAA investigation that began more than two years ago determined that Rich Merritt , former coach of both the men's and women's teams at various times, bought athletes beer, paid for meals and lodging, and helped cover travel expenses for one to try to qualify for the U.S. Open.

Augusta State falls on road to Erskine
In Due West, S.C., 24th-ranked Erskine scored 10 runs during the middle three innings to erase a three-run deficit en route to a 13-8 victory over Augusta State on Thursday.
Bryan Fogle went 2 for 5 with a homer and four RBI to lead the Flying Fleet (21-6).
Carl Burrow was 2 for 4 with a homer and four RBI for the Jaguars (8-16). Caleb Saggus was 2 for 5 with a triple and two RBI.
Chase Johnston (0-3) took the loss, allowing 12 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits in 5q innings.
- In Aiken, 10th-ranked USC Aiken blanked Chowan 7-0 to sweep the two-game series from the Hawks and post their season-high eighth win in a row.
Stephen Carmon homered and drove in two runs for the Pacers (18-7). Jowan Gray also had two RBI. Bill Rice went 3 for 4 and Matt Key went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs.
Jason Cochcroft (2-0) earned the win, allowing just four hits and striking out six in 7w innings.
Softball
No. 1 North Georgia sweeps USC Aiken
In Dahlonega, Ga., USC Aiken dropped both games of a doubleheader to top-ranked North Georgia, losing the first game 4-0 and the second 3-1.
Kellie Hair scored USC Aiken's only run in the two games.
The Saints improved to 26-0. The Lady Pacers dropped to 12-13.
College Basketball
Aiken Tech players receive accolades
Aiken Tech's Anthony Rapley was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region first team.
The freshman averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals per game for the Knights.
Teammate Antrjuan Albright , a sophomore, was third-team All-Region. He averaged 13.3 points per game.
Two former Aiken Tech players were also recognized.
Mississippi Valley State's Shannon Behling , who played for the Knights during the 2007 season, was named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference first team.
Benedict's Kennie Eberhart , who played for the Knights from 2004-2006, made the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-tournament team.

NASCAR set to test spoilers at Charlotte
In Concord, N.C., race fans can get a peek at NASCAR's latest rule change when Charlotte Motor Speedway plays host to two days of testing next week for Sprint Cup teams utilizing spoilers rather than rear wings.
Robin Pemberton , NASCAR's vice president of competition, said the series will use spoilers in all races beginning with the March 28 race at Martinsville, Va.
The test will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Charlotte.
