Falcons' William Moore, Asante Samuel questionable for Panthers game

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Atlanta Falcons strong safety William Moore and cornerback Asante Samuel missed practice Friday for the third consecutive day and are questionable for Sunday’s game at Carolina.

Moore has been sidelined since injuring a hamstring in the Falcons’ home win over New Orleans on Nov. 29. He intercepted quarterback Drew Brees twice and finished with 11 tackles.

Samuel played just three snaps before aggravating a right shoulder injury against the Saints.

Running back Michael Turner (elbow) and defensive tackle Peria Jerry (thigh) are also questionable. Both were limited in practice on Friday.

KICKOFFS: Cleveland Browns return specialist Josh Cribbs doesn’t like the possibility that the NFL will replace the kickoff.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said this week that the league’s competition committee will consider eliminating the kickoff in the off-season. The league has moved the kickoff from the 30 to 35-yard line to cut down on violent collisions, hoping to reduce head injuries.

Cribbs, who shares the league record for kickoff return touchdowns with Seattle’s Leon Washington, said banning the kickoff would change the league “drastically” and that if the move was made it would be “just like intramurals.”

Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano suggested that instead of kickoffs, teams would have the option of punting from the 30-yard line and going for a first down in a fourth-and-15 situation.

Goodell has called Schiano’s idea “interesting.”

EAGLES: Quarterback Michael Vick and running back LeSean McCoy will not play Sunday because of concussions.

STEELERS: Left guard Willie Colon practiced for the second consecutive day Friday and is listed as probable, as Pittsburgh prepares to play San Diego on Sunday.

BEARS: Ruled out cornerback Tim Jennings for Sunday’s game at Minnesota because of a shoulder injury and listed receivers Alshon Jeffery, a former South Carolina star, and Devin Hester as probable.

JETS: Rex Ryan says he’ll make a game-time decision on whether Tim Tebow plays in the game in Jacksonville on Sunday.

Tebow, healing from two broken ribs, will travel to his hometown with the team and Ryan will determine if the backup quarterback plays.

JAGUARS: Ruled wide receiver Cecil Shorts out for Sunday’s game against the New York because of concussion symptoms.

FINED: Green Bay’s Tramon Williams was docked $21,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Minnesota’s Toby Gerhart.

• Detroit defensive tackle Nick Fairley was fined $15,750 for his horse-collar tackle of Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck.

• Washington center Will Montgomery was fined $10,000 for kicking New York Giants defensive lineman Linval Joseph.
