Terrell Owens NFL return lasted less than three weeks.
Owens tweeted on Sunday that he is no longer a member of the Seattle Seahawks, part of the league-mandated roster reductions from 90 to 75 players. The 38-year-old posted a message on his Twitter account shortly before 11 a.m. PDT that he had been released.
“I’m no longer a Seahawk. I THANK the organization 4 the opportunity, I’m truly blessed beyond belief. My FAITH is intact & will NOT waiver.”
Owens signed a one-year deal with Seattle on Aug. 7.
• Rookie Russell Wilson earned the Seahawks’ starting quarterback job.
That was the word from coach Pete Carroll on Sunday night after he announced that the third-round pick from Wisconsin will start when the regular season begins Sept. 9 at Arizona.
With that move, the Seahawks are now in talks with the Buffalo Bills about a potential trade involving Tarvaris Jackson.
COLTS: Plugged their biggest hole on defense by trading two undisclosed draft picks to Miami for cornerback Vontae Davis.
Indy has been desperately looking for a second cornerback to start opposite veteran Jerraud Powers, and Davis fits the bill.
The Dolphins took Davis with the No. 25 overall pick in 2009. In 44 career games, he has 148 tackles and nine interceptions.
RAVENS: Cut kicker Billy Cundiff , electing to keep rookie Justin Tucker instead of the former Pro Bowl star.
Cundiff made the Pro Bowl in 2010 but last season missed a potential game-tying, 32-yarder against New England in the waning seconds of the AFC title game.
PANTHERS 17, JETS 12
In East Ruterford, N.J., Tim Tebow threw a late interception as Carolina held on for a victory over New York.
The Jets (0-3) still haven’t scored a touchdown through three preseason games.
Tebow completed 4 of 14 passes for 55 yards. He was sacked three times. Starter Mark Sanchez was 11 of 18 for 123 yards and an interception.
Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart injured his right ankle late in the first half. He did not return to the game.
49ERS 29, BRONCOS 24
In Denver, Peyton Manning shined in his final regular-season tuneup Sunday, throwing his first two touchdown passes for the Denver Broncos in a 29-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Manning completed 10 of 12 passes for 122 yards, including TD tosses of 10 and 5 yards to Eric Decker.
