Homer in the ninth lifts Pacers to win

In Aiken, JJ Loker hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give 20th-ranked USC Aiken a 6-5 victory over Lincoln Memorial on Sunday in the final game of a season-opening series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

Stephen Bellantoni, Josh Miller and Tripp Warrick also drove in runs for the Pacers (2-1). Teddy Leverette scored twice.

Jeremy Smith , the fourth USC Aiken pitcher, got the win, shutting out Lincoln Memorial on three hits over the final two innings. He struck out two and walked one.

Starter Derek Beasley pitched five shutout innings. He allowed four hits, struck out five and walked three.

- Augusta State split a doubleheader with Carson-Newman for the second consecutive day at Lake Olmstead Stadium, winning the opener 4-1 on Sunday and dropping the second game 9-3.

Casey Hanrahan hit a three-run homer for the Jaguars (2-2) in the seventh inning of the opener.

Rob Crosby earned the with 1w innings of hitless relief. Wilson Taylor earned his second save, retiring the side in order in the ninth.

Tristan Toorie homered for the Jaguars in the second game.

Reed ties for sixth in Jones Cup event

In Sea Island, Ga., defending champion Patrick Reed shot a final-round 75 on Sunday to tie for sixth in the Jones Cup Invitational at Ocean Forest Golf Club.

The Augusta State golfer finished the 54-hole event at 5-over 221, four shots behind John Peterson and Jordan Spieth who tied for first.

Jeff Knox , of Augusta, shot 77 and tied for 34th at 229. Augusta State golfer Henrik Norlander (77) tied for 39th at 230. Fellow Jaguar Derek Chang (77) and teammate Carter Newman (77) tied for 56th at 233. Augusta's John Engler (84) was another shot back and tied for 60th. Augusta State golfer Mitch Krywulycz (81) finished 73rd at 237, while Augusta's Lee Knox (80) tied for 74th at 238.

Belgium beats U.S. in Fed Cup match

In Antwerp, Belgium, Kim Clijsters came from behind to beat Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-7 (10), 6-2, 6-1 Sunday and lead Belgium to a 4-1 win over the United States and a place in the semifinals of the Fed Cup World Group.

After Clijsters gave Belgium an insurmountable advantage, Yanina Wickmayer defeated Melanie Oudin 6-2, 6-0 for a 4-0 lead. The U.S. team secured its only point when Liezel Huber and Vania King beat Kirsten Flipkens and An-Sophie Mestach 6-3, 7-5 in doubles.

- In Aiken, USC Aiken men's and women's teams opened their spring seasons with victories over Young Harris on Sunday, with the 25th-ranked men winning 8-1 and women winning 9-0.

Skiing

German wins slalom to lengthen her lead

In Zwiesel, Germany, Olympic champion Viktoria Rebensburg , of Germany, won a women's World Cup giant slalom race Sunday, and World Cup leader Maria Riesch extended her lead on defending champion Lindsey Vonn.

Riesch placed 11th. Vonn finished 18th.
