Bears' Harris will play through pain

Chicago Bears safety Chris Harris practiced Friday on a limited basis for the first time this week after suffering a hip pointer in a playoff win over Seattle on Sunday.

Harris, listed as questionable, said he's "definitely playing" in Sunday's NFC title game against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers and is feeling "a lot" better.

The Packers have been hit hard by injuries all season, but their situation going into the game is relatively stable.

Outside linebacker Frank Zombo is listed as out because of a knee injury, and backup offensive lineman Jason Spitz is questionable with a calf injury.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy rested some veteran players this week, including cornerback Charles Woodson , left tackle Chad Clifton , and defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins and Ryan Pickett . All are listed as probable.

Outside linebacker Erik Walden (shoulder) and inside linebacker A.J. Hawk (knee) were added to the injury report Friday but are listed as probable.

LIONS: Quarterback Matthew Stafford had surgery on his right throwing shoulder Friday and the team said it expects the former Georgia star to be back in time for training camp.

The team said the "successful" surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews this week.

PANTHERS: Hired Mike Shula as quarterbacks coach, a key position as the Panthers try to turn around the NFL's worst offense under new coach Ron Rivera .

The 45-year-old son of former Miami coach Don Shula was hired on Friday. He spent the past four seasons as QBs coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he oversaw the development of David Garrard . Before that, the former Alabama QB was the head coach at his alma mater

BILLS: A person familiar with negotiations told The Associated Press that Dave Wannstedt has agreed to a multiyear deal to become Buffalo's assistant head coach.

BROWNS: Coach Pat Shurmur has hired Dick Jauron to be the team's defensive coordinator.

Jauron spent last season as Philadelphia's secondary coach.

"He has a tremendous knowledge of the game and is an excellent teacher," Shurmur said.

TITANS: Backup quarterback Chris Simms rejected a plea deal Friday after being charged with driving while high on marijuana, putting the case on track for a trial as soon as March.

REPRESENTED: Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton has hired representation as he prepares for the NFL Draft.

The former Auburn quarterback signed with co-representatives, agent Bus Cook and Washington, D.C.-based Perennial Sports and Entertainment.

RECOVERED: Police say they've recovered former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly 's Hall of Fame ring and some other items that were stolen in 2009. Two men face charges.
