JETS: Rex Ryan smoothed things over with Tony Dungy . The New York coach spoke with Dungy about his criticism of him during HBO's Hard Knocks series. The former NFL coach said that Ryan used too much profanity.
"I wanted him to know how I felt," Ryan said Thursday. "We talked man-to-man. He told me his position and I definitely told him my position. So, it was good."
Ryan was disappointed Wednesday, saying Dungy unfairly judged him for his foul language on the television show. Dungy told The Dan Patrick Show on Monday that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should talk to Ryan about his excessive cursing.
TEXANS: Linebacker Brian Cushing has had a four-game suspension for taking a performance-enhancing drug upheld by the NFL after his appeal.
The reigning Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year was suspended in May for testing positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the NFL's banned substances list.
Cushing claims that he has a unique medical condition that triggered the positive test.
BRONCOS: Signed quarterback Kyle Orton to a long-term contract extension.
Orton signed a one-year, $2.62 million tender this spring. The Broncos brought in Tim Tebow , who missed his second consecutive practice with bruised ribs, and Brady Quinn , both of whom are miles behind Orton in grasping McDaniels' offense.
