FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.  - Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave has been promoted to assistant head coach.

Musgrave continues his duties as quarterbacks coach. He took the lead in the development of Matt Ryan, the 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Coach Mike Smith says today that Musgrave's new title is "a well-deserved promotion."

Musgrave was the Washington Redskins quarterbacks coach in 2005 and has served as offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-04), Carolina Panthers (2000) and Philadelphia Eagles (1998).

He took a break from his NFL career to coordinate Virginia's offense in 2001-02.
