While the impact of the NHL season isn’t expected to hit the Augusta RiverHawks hard in numbers, a top defender is already getting a call up.

William Lacasse, the RiverHawks’ leading scorer among defensemen in his rookie season, has been loaned to the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. Lacasse had five goals and nine assists in 26 games for the RiverHawks this season. He was loaned to the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors for one game Dec. 29.

In a corresponding move, Augusta signed defenseman Joe Schiller. The 24-year-old played eight games for the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers earlier this season, notching one assist. Schiller starred at Minnesota State-Mankato from 2008-2012, recording 31 points in 109 games.

Schiller is already with the team and is expected to be in the RiverHawks lineup Thursday at Fayetteville. Lacasse will join Idaho immediately.
