Augusta’s third consecutive season of minor league hockey will open on the road, according to a partial version of the 2012-13 schedule released by the Augusta RiverHawks this morning.
The Southern Professional Hockey League team’s first road trip will also be its longest. The team will start the season on the road in the last weekend of October against the Mississippi RiverKings, RiverHawks owner Bob Kerzner said.
The team released the home portion of its schedule this morning but did not reveal its road games.
The RiverHawks will return to James Brown Arena Friday, Nov. 2 when they play host to the Fayetteville FireAntz. The home opener will feature pregame festivities that will include the raising of the team’s first championship banner, celebrating a 2011-12 regular season title.
The team will also play at home Nov. 3. The next week of games includes a Nov. 8 home game with the Knoxville Ice Bears, Augusta’s top rival and the former team of newly hired RiverHawks coach Rob Miller.
A statement released by the RiverHawks said all dates, times and opponents on the 56-game schedule remain subject to change.
