Fukala returns to RiverHawks

McGill awaits ruling on appeals process

Kevin Fukala, who energized fans at James Brown Arena earlier this season with his hard-hitting fists and willingness to fight, has returned to the Augusta RiverHawks.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound enforcer tallied 102 penalty minutes in 11 games for the RiverHawks before leaving for the ECHL's Florida Everblades.

Fukala's arrival will help fill a void left by forward Aaron McGill, who was suspended by the Southern Professional Hockey League for the rest of the season on Tuesday. McGill's punch in Saturday night's loss in Knoxville shattered the jaw of Ice Bears defenseman Mark Van Vliet, and McGill's suspension of the remaining 13 regular season games and playoffs highlighted a series of multiple suspensions and fines handed out by the league office this week as as result of the physical game.

The RiverHawks are appealing the league's ruling on McGill's suspension. The team will play three games in three nights starting Thursday, and head coach Brad Ralph said he's waiting to hear from the league on if McGill can play until the appeal process is completed.

"I'll find out later today," Ralph said. "But I'm going about my business like he can't play."

Ralph also said a new goalie will arrive in time for Thursday night's game to replace Jon Olthuis, who left for Dayton in the Central Hockey League on Tuesday.

If you can't be supportive

If you can't be supportive McTurtle, then just keep your trap shut!
And Fukala is NOT a goon. He is an enforcer! Every team has one, do you know anything about hockey????????
Fukala does his job, and he does it well. Heck yea he is a HUGE fan favorite. He fights clean. McGill was a goon.

McTurtle, Fukala is a one in

McTurtle, Fukala is a one in a million stand up guy. Try sitting down with him in a conversation and you might find that out. He has a job to do as an enforcer, but remember it's a position, he is an awesome Christian. Don't pass judgment until you know who he is. As for McGill, he did what he had to for his team. He has gotten the "crap" end of the stick before in some games. So as for "the goon", I'll support our players until the end. I've seen others who have pulled similar stunts and not get what he did. An injury happened, and I NEVER, want to see that happen to another player, but what transpired unfortunately is what came out of it. So, I'll support all of our guys being a RH fan.

So let me get this straight

So let me get this straight being a good "Christian" gives you the right to purposely hurt people in a GAME! Wow!! I missed that in my bible study. I'll be there supporting the team just don't see the need to purposely hurt other players for the sake of a hockey game. It's not like it's a fight to the death geezzz!!

Again, have the "guts" to sit

Again, have the "guts" to sit down and discuss the players view. Read Billy Byler's article on Fukala and learn.
