Calgary Flames  vs. Nashville Predators
Thursday Oct 23, 2008
 (Calgary 5-Nashville 3)

*Flames catch fire in third period, down Predators*

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Captain Jarome Iginla recorded a hat trick and Mike Cammalleri snapped a tie with a power-play goal with 7:29 remaining in the third period as the Calgary Flames rallied for a 5-3 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

David Moss also scored while Craig Conroy and defenseman Dion Phaneuf notched two assists apiece for Calgary, which won its second straight game.

"This one feels good," Iginla said. "We weren't as sharp as we should have been early, but this is the type of game where we dug deep and won it."

Captain Jason Arnott recorded a goal and an assist and defenseman Greg Zanon and Jordin Tootoo also tallied for the Predators, who were denied a third straight win after opening a 3-0 lead.

After Iginla and Moss scored less than two minutes apart early in the third, Cammalleri put the Flames ahead by redirecting Phaneuf's slap shot past goaltender Dan Ellis. Iginla notched an empty-netter with three seconds left to seal the victory and complete his first hat trick of the season and eighth career.

"Up 3-1 going into the third period, there is absolutely no reason you should lose that game," Ellis said. "Tonight we didn't play strong, and I didn't stop the puck when I needed to."

Iginla entered with just two goals in his first six games of the season.

The Flames struggled early as the Predators were dominant for most of the first two periods. But Iginla sparked Calgary's comeback, beating Ellis to the stick side with a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot with 5:56 left in the second.

"You never come to expect anything less than excellence from him," Flames coach Mike Keenan said of Iginla. "That really ignited the team and set the team up for the response in the third period."

"Near the end of the second, we started moving the puck better, giving us a chance to use our speed and score some goals," Iginla said.

Iginla then pulled the Flames within 3-2 at 6:52 of the third, when he tapped in a pass by defenseman James Vandermeer from the right side of the crease.

Prior to that, it was all Nashville. After a scoreless first period, Zanon and Tootoo tallied 19 seconds apart early in the second period.

Zanon beat netminder Miikka Kiprusoff high to the stick side with a slap shot from the right point at 5:42 for his first goal since March 31, 2007, a span of 87 games. Moments later, Tootoo scored on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle for a 2-0 lead.

Arnott's power-play tally at 8:10 of the period made it 3-0.

Kiprusoff stopped 35 shots for Calgary, which went 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

"To come back after being down like we were is tough to do in this league," Kiprusoff said. "You keep believing that there is still time. It was an unbelievable comeback for us."

Ellis made 22 saves for the Predators, who were 1-for-9 on the power play.

"This one hurts double because it is a home game, and it is against a team we will be battling with all season," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "We had them on the floor, but we couldn't knock them out."
