New York Rangers score late to nip reeling Dallas Stars

NEW YORK — Rick Nash snapped a tie with 1:58 left, and the New York Rangers sent the Dallas Stars to their fifth consecutive loss, 3-2 on Friday night.

Nash poked a rebound of Chris Kreider’s shot past Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen to give New York its first lead of the game.

Ryan Callahan and Derick Brassard both erased one-goal deficits, Brad Richards had two assists, and Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves for the Rangers, who improved to 7-2-1 in their past 10 games.

Ryan Garbutt and Cody Eakin both had a goal and assist, but the Stars remained winless in 2014.

PREDATORS: Goaltender Pekka Rinne has been cleared to start weight-bearing exercises under a doctor’s supervision in his recovery from a hip infection.

The Predators announced Friday on the team’s Web site there is no timetable for this stage of recovery but Rinne will be evaluated daily.

WILD: Players will wear camouflage jerseys during pre-game warm-ups today when the team plays host to the Colorado Avalanche.

The player-autographed camouflage jerseys will then be auctioned off online to benefit the Minnesota Wild Foundation and Defending The Blue Line.

Defending The Blue Line is a nonprofit organization created by a group of National Guard soldiers in Minnesota.

The charity helps families in all branches of the military with the costs of hockey, such as registration fees, free equipment and summer hockey camps.

The auction starts Wednesday, Jan. 15, at www.wild.com/camo and ends on Sunday, Jan. 26.

The Minnesota National Guard will be the presenting partner for Saturday’s game. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.
