PITTSBURGH — Newly acquired Jussi Jokinen forward scored in regulation in his debut and then added the only tally in the shootout as the Pittsburgh Penguins edged the New York Rangers 2-1 on Friday night.
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 34 shots and then stoned Rick Nash, Mats Zuccarello and Ryan Callahan in the shootout as Pittsburgh snapped a two-game losing streak following a 15-game winning run.
Fleury was at the top of his game just two nights after he allowed all the goals in the Rangers’ 6-1 home victory over the Penguins.
SABRES 4, SENATORS 2
In Buffalo, N.Y., Brian Flynn and Jochen Hecht scored third-period goals 12 seconds apart, and the Sabres rallied past Ottawa.
Steve Ott and Luke Adam also scored for Buffalo, and Ryan Miller stopped 35 shots. Defensemen Adam Pardy and Mike Weber each had two assists for the rebuilding Sabres, who are still trying to make a late push for a playoff spot.
Buffalo is now 12th in the Eastern Conference.
BLUES 3, BLUE JACKETS 1
In St. Louis, Jake Allen made 26 saves, and David Backes scored for the second consecutive game to lead the suddenly surging Blues to a win over Columbus
The Blues have won three in a row after a three-game skid. St. Louis entered the night in eighth place in the Western Conference.
St. Louis has won all three meetings with Columbus this season and 10 of 11 overall. The Blue Jackets failed to earn a point for only the third time in 19 games.
