Two of South Carolina’s premier football programs will be in the spotlight for The Augusta Chronicle’s Game of the Week.

Strom Thurmond visits Silver Bluff on Friday night at 7:30.

Stop by to see Sports Editor John Boyette and Spotted! photographer Ryan Wehmeyer at The Augusta Chronicle booth for a chance to win a $25 Visa gift card. Our team will be there promoting our new Augusta High School Football App, featuring team pages, latest scores, video and photos.

Both the Rebels and Bulldogs are rich in tradition, with the pair combining for seven state championships through the years.

Both are in Class AA now, but Strom Thurmond has enjoyed the upper hand in head-to-head games in recent years. The Rebels opened the 2013 season with a 31-15 victory over the visiting Bulldogs, but it was the only loss for Silver Bluff until it fell in the Class AA Division II championship game.

While Silver Bluff is led by veteran coach Al Lown, Strom Thurmond has a new leader on its sideline. Antwaun Hillary has taken over for Lee Sawyer, who guided the Rebels to an 11-2 record last season.
