Richard and the Wolfpack went 0-10 in 2013, often on the wrong end of routs.
But after one game in 2014, Greenbrier stopped the slump in style.
With 212 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the Wolfpack’s 34-0 win against Harlem, Richard is The Augusta Chronicle’s Player of the Week.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: “It really built a lot of character for some of us,” Richard said about the winless season. “We learned how to fight and to keep fighting. We were tired of people talking about us.”
Sure, the win came against a Harlem team in Class AA – three classifications lower than Greenbrier – but the win was Greenbrier’s first since Nov. 9, 2012.
With the Wolfpack up 7-0, Richard scored from three yards away to increase the lead. He then got his second touchdown in the third quarter on a long run.
“I saw green grass and I just turned on the jets,” Richard said.
Richard’s big game came in Jarrett Troxler’s debut as Greenbrier’s coach.
“He’s so fast and he runs with a lot of conviction,” Troxler said.
“He wants to win so bad, and he’s such a team player. He runs like he wants to win.”
