NORTH AUGUSTA — Silver Bluff defeated Thomson in comeback fashion in the first round of the Savannah River Shootout Christmas Classic on Wednesday, turning a halftime deficit into a 59-55 victory.
The two schools met at North Augusta High School for the annual tournament coming off different results. Silver Bluff (7-2) defeated Fox Creek on Dec. 15, while Thomson lost a nail-biter to Monticello on the 16th. Thomson looked to rebound across the river, and appeared to be on its way to doing so following the tip.
Zander Hamilton led the way for Thomson (6-4) with 12 points in the first half to a 30-27 lead heading into the locker room. After the first quarter, however, it was really all all Silver Bluff. The Bulldogs from South Carolina outscored their Georgia counterparts in each of the final three quarters before a Latavian Lawrence dunk late in the fourth sealed the deal.
Hamilton scored a team-high 21 for Thomson, followed by Aubrey Ivery with 16. Zavian Smith notched 10, Ronnie Howard finished with 4, Malik Shields with 3 and Frederick Parker rounded out the totals with 2.
Lawrence led Silver Bluff with 16 and Ke’Andre Williams was behind him with 9. Ke’Adrian Burton, Wright JadaKiss and Jimmie Foreman each finished with 8, with two of Burton’s coming on a huge slam in the third. Jamaal Washington finished with 5 and John Green with 2.
Silver Bluff plays the winner of Hunter-Kinard-Tyler and North Augusta today at 8:30 p.m. at North Augusta High School.
