Burke County climbs in latest poll

Burke County continued its climb after a big win in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association High School Football Poll.

 

The Bears moved up two spots to No. 3 in Class AAAA after beating Thomson 27-24 this past Friday to remain perfect at 9-0, including 4-0 in Region 3-AAAA. The rivalry loss knocked the Bulldogs down three spots to No. 5.

Screven County remained No. 2 in Class AA while Jefferson County moved up one spot to No. 6. The Gamecocks beat Glenn Hills 35-0 this past week and the Warriors beat Josey 72-30. Both are undefeated to set up a region championship showdown this Friday at Screven County.

Evans received its first vote of the season in Class AAAAAA after moving to 7-2 and 4-0 with a 42-0 rout of Lakeside. The Knights play host to Heritage this Friday for a region title.

North Augusta kept its spot in the latest South Carolina Prep Media Poll.

The Yellow Jackets held onto No. 4 in Class AAAA after routing Aiken 51-21 to finish the regular season at 10-0. South Aiken is No. 8 after handling Midland Valley 62-21.

Barnwell remained No. 5 in Class AA after beating Silver Bluff 42-16 to finish the regular season at 9-1. Williston-Elko is No. 3 in Class A, while Wagener-Salley is No. 8 and Ridge Spring-Monetta is No. 9.

Strom Thurmond and McCormick received votes.
