Aquinas High School football player John Paul is the player of the week. MICHAEL HOLAHAN/STAFF

John Paul

SCHOOL: Aquinas

CLASS: Senior

POS.: Quarterback/defensive back

HT./WT.: 5-10, 165 pounds

HIGHLIGHTS: Paul went 22 for 31 for 308 yards and three touchdowns as Aquinas rolled to a 45-14 win over Hancock Central this past Friday. The senior quarterback guided the Irish to their best offensive showing so far and got region play started on the right foot at 1-0.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: “We’ve put up some points in a couple games, but our offense hasn’t been clicking like we wanted it to, so the other night was great for us to get the offense rolling. We had the ground game going, John Paul had a great game throwing the ball. It’s just good to see it all start coming together, and it’s a great time to start clicking right before region starts.” — Aquinas coach James Leonard

WHAT HE SAID: “Offensive line did a great job. They held enough so I could get the ball in George Welch’s hands and watch what he does. He does it well. They don’t drop anything. It’s good to have a good receiving corps.”
