Hephzibah snaps skid with win over Westside

Hephzibah picked up its first win since 2015 with a 39-7 victory over Westside on Friday night.

The Rebels won their first game since beating Glenn Hills on Oct. 16, 2015, a span of 15 games, and improved to 1-2 on the season. They did so by outscoring Westside 26-7 in the first half and cruising the rest of the way.

Charles Lockwood has been a key piece for Hephzibah as a senior quarterback, totaling 251 passing yards through the first two games. Junior running back Rayquan Riley has been a strong complement on the ground with 122 yards and three touchdowns over the same span.

Hephzibah notched just its seventh win in 36 meetings with Westside. The two have traded victories over the past six seasons.

SILVER BLUFF 22, FOX CREEK 20

In North Augusta, Silver Bluff picked up its first win of the season with a victory against Fox Creek.

The Bulldogs took their first lead this season when Jamaal Washington hit Jimmy Foreman on a 30-yard post in the second quarter.

The Predators (1-2) turned the ball over seven times, and every turnover seemed to take place at a crucial point in the game.

Silver Bluff’s John Green had three interceptions and put the Bulldogs (1-2) in good field position with returns.

“It seemed like we were really in this one throughout the game,” said Silver Bluff offensive lineman Isaiah Green. “We believed in ourselves and took advantage of the opportunities that were presented to us.”
