A new area team made its season debut in the latest Georgia Sports Writers Association High School Football Poll.
Burke County broke into the Class AAAA rankings at No. 10 after beating Class AAAAAA opponent Grovetown 41-7 this past week. The annual state contender has an experienced group that knows coach Eric Parker’s system, and expectations are high for the Bears.
Thomson remained No. 2 in Class AAAA after routing Laney 50-0 in the season opener.
Screven County held firm at No. 5 in Class AA after beating Bluffton 45-20 at Georgia Southern this past Saturday. Region rival Jefferson County moved up two spots to No. 6 after a 37-13 victory at Savannah Christian.
Washington County received votes in Class AA.
