Augusta Christian baseball player fighting for his life

Two days a week, Drew Passmore mentors another Augusta Christian student on the Bible. That’s just one of the things that makes him special, Lions baseball coach Steve White said.

“He’s a solid kid. He loves the Lord,” White said. “He’s a guy you want on your team. He’s someone who is going to make your team better.”

A senior third baseman, Passmore continued fighting for his life Monday after being involved in a serious car accident this weekend. According to the Augusta Christian Schools Facebook page Monday afternoon, Passmore, who has been in a coma, received a dose of good news.

“After taking Drew off of all medications, the doctors performed tests and determined that he does have a gag reflex. He is not out of the woods but this is a very positive step. The doctors are treating him as someone who can recover from this and we are praying for full restoration. Thank you for all of your support for Drew, the Passmore family and ACS.

“Praise the Lord O my soul and all that is within me praise His holy name!”

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Passmore family. If you’d like to support the family, check out the page: https://www.gofundme.com/support-for-the-passmore-family.

Passmore is hitting .333 with two doubles and two RBI this season. He collected three hits in Augusta Christian’s first night game on its home campus, March 10. The Lions notched a 4-0 victory over Heathwood Hall on Friday night.

According to a police report, Passmore was involved in an accident at 10:20 a.m. Saturday on William Few Parkway, when he lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, hitting the rear side of a Toyota Prius before exiting the road and hitting a tree on the driver’s side.

Since then, more than 200 people – including area baseball coaches and players – have been to the hospital, bringing food and praying.

Augusta Christian’s baseball team is scheduled to play its next game at 6 p.m. Thursday at home against Westminster.
