All Kendall White had to do was fall on the ball – no running needed.

Georgia players raise the Border Bowl trophy, an oar, as Georgia defeated South Carolina in the Border Bowl.

The Lakeside lineman starred by recovering two fumbles and scoring a defensive touchdown in Team Georgia’s 24-10 win over Team South Carolina in the inaugural Border Bowl on Sunday.

Georgia forced five turnovers in the win.

“I scored a touchdown my freshman year on JV, a 98-yard pick-six,” said White, who was named Georgia’s defensive player of the game. “I thought that, being on the D-line, that my glory days of scoring were over.”

But White’s touchdown was the first score as Georgia never trailed. With Georgia leading 21-10 in the fourth quarter, the Lakeside senior landed on another fumble, this time after a sack.

As Georgia’s defense contained dual threat quarterback Jauveer Hammond and had two interceptions, the offense had more than enough.

“Everybody was executing and swarming to the ball,” said Georgia lineman Willie Yarbary, of Richmond Academy. “I got to give mad props to the D-linemen.”

Georgia led 21-7 at the half as the teams turned it over a combined five times.

Though South Aiken’s Bo Baldwin showed perfect touch on a bomb that hit South Carolina offensive MVP Keyon West in stride on a 68-yard pass to tie, Georgia scored the first half’s other 14 points on two scores.

Those two touchdowns read the same: Hunter Banks to Chris Lambert.

The Aquinas receiver was a go-to target in the red zone, leading to 67 receiving yards in the first half. Banks was prolific through the air, with his 139 first-half passing yards and two scores easily offsetting an interception in the end zone.

On the ground, Georgia often went to Lincoln County’s Mike McIntire, who rushed for 72 yards. From the other side, Silver Bluff’s Shaquez Wright paced the ground attack with 75 yards.

One day after severe weather postponed action, Sunday saw clear blue skies.

It was worth the wait for Georgia.

“God has ways of correcting everything,” Georgia/Lakeside head coach Jarrett Troxler said. “I don’t think it could have been a better day. This is awesome.”

Boat Paddle

I think I remember reading that the boat paddle signifies the Savannah River, which separates the two squads.

For whom does Hunter Banks play?
