Laney had never left Dublin with a win. But Keller helped changed that.
He had more than 300 offensive yards and four touchdowns as Laney won at Dublin 26-0 this past Friday night. The win, Laney’s first after four previous defeats at Dublin, gives the Wildcats a region championship.
It also made Keller The Augusta Chronicle’s Player of the Week.
“It felt so good,” he said. “I never won in Dublin before. My brother and my cousins, they played and they never won down there, either. So it was a big win. A big win.”
Keller passed for 165 yards and two scores and rushed for 144 yards with two touchdowns on only 15 carries as Laney improved to 7-2 overall.
He was dangerous with short fields or long ones, as he had a 73-yard scoring play with receiver Andre James before he had an eight-yard run in the fourth.
Keller surprised himself with his impressive totals.
“It didn’t hit me until that Sunday when we had our meeting,” Keller said. “They told me what our stats were. I didn’t even know. I was so happy for my team about what we did together, that I didn’t pay attention.”
