Richmond Academy blanks Butler

  • Follow High school

PLAY OF THE GAME: Before Richmond Academy started rolling on offense, senior defensive tackle Willie Yarbray helped set the tone on defense. He showed off his athleticism by tipping a Butler pass to himself, returning it to the Bulldogs’ 7-yard line to set up the Musketeers’ first score.

STAR OF THE GAME: Musketeers tailback Travis Beatty put a closing stamp on three scoring drives before halftime. The senior had scoring runs of 3, 5 and 2 yards to go along with a game-high 57 rushing yards, all in the first half.

WHY RICHMOND ACADEMY WON: Prior to the second half, the Musketeers seemingly could do no wrong. They limited Butler to 44 yards and two first downs, while gaining 206 yards and 12 first downs in that span.

WHY BUTLER LOST: The Bulldogs never advanced into Richmond Academy territory and had two costly turnovers.

QUOTABLE: “We’re improving. Every week, it seems like we’re improving. Maybe we’re getting it together. … Defensively, we played really well.” – Richmond Academy Head Coach Chris Hughes

RECORDS: Richmond Academy 4-4 (3-1 Region 3B-AAAA); Butler 1-7 (1-3 Region 3B-AAAA).
