Aquinas and Washington County didn’t move up in the latest rankings, but their impressive wins have brought them closer to No. 2.

In this week’s Georgia Sports Writers Association high school football polls, Aquinas and Washington County remained third in Class A and Class AAA after dominating wins.

The Irish ended a 32-game losing streak to Lincoln County with a 42-14 win and is now just 11 points behind Landmark Christian. In the previous week’s poll, which had two more voters, Aquinas was 29 votes back of second.

In Class AAA, the Golden Hawks were down 21 votes to Cartersville but are now only nine back after the 40-0 win against previously undefeated Jefferson County. The Warriors’ loss dropped Jefferson County four spots to No. 9.

Washington-Wilkes is the area’s other ranked team. The 7-0 Tigers stayed put at No. 4 in Class AA.
