PLAY OF THE GAME: With Fox Creek nursing a one-point lead late in the fourth quarter, Jaquan Williams broke a 49-yard run. It allowed the Predators to run out most of the clock before Deondre Baskett scored with 1:07 to go.
STAR OF THE GAME: The score capped off an incredible night for Baskett. The Predators quarterback also scored on runs of 79 and 53 yards. He finished with 153 rushing yards to go with 26 passing yards.
WHY FOX CREEK WON: The Predators forced turnovers, maintained control of the clock, and produced just enough big plays to hold off Augusta Christian.
WHY AUGUSTA CHRISTIAN LOST: The Lions turned it over six times, a number that proved too much to overcome. Still, the Lions had a chance at the end after a 34-yard hook-and-lateral play. But a last-ditch pass from Hunter Beyersdoerfer from the Fox Creek 15-yard line was intercepted by Terrance Hillary.
QUOTABLE: “If there’s gray hair or anybody close to a heart attack, it was tonight,” Fox Creek head coach Russ Schneider said of the back-and-forth contest. “Their kids played so hard; our kids played so hard. Nobody gave up. … I don’t know if either team could’ve played overtime, because they were exhausted.”
NEXT: Augusta Christian (1-3) at Pinewood Prep, Friday; Fox Creek (3-1) vs. Ridge Spring-Monetta, Friday.
