PLAY OF THE GAME: Facing a third-and-26 late in the first quarter, Aquinas quarterback Liam Welch connected with tailback Ruben Garnett for a 54-yard touchdown.

STAR OF THE GAME: Welch. In the opening half, he completed 9 of 14 passes for 165 yards and four TDs.

WHY AQUINAS WON: It put the contest out of reach with four second-quarter TDs, including scores from Antonio ClarkChris LambertDaniel Lindsey and Justin Gibbs.

WHY JOSEY LOST: It struggled to move the ball on the Irish defense, picking up only three first downs.

QUOTABLE: “Coming into this game, I wanted to throw the ball more and we accomplished that tonight,” Aquinas head coach James Leonard said. “Liam had a great game and so did our offensive line and receivers. Overall, I felt like our receivers grew up a lot tonight.”
