North Augusta runner Nikolas O'Brien is fall sports player of the week

NIKOLAS O’BRIEN

SCHOOL: North Augusta High School CLASS: Senior HT: 6-1

HIGHLIGHTS: O’Brien finished first in the Nike Panther XC Invitational on Sept. 7 in Fayetteville, Ga., with a personal-record time of 15:47.59, finishing 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 5K. He followed with another personal record in the Coaches Classic in Columbia on Saturday with a time of 15:38.67, placing third.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: “Nik is a runner with outstanding work ethic. He has a huge desire to excel. He works year round, it’s not just a three-month sport for him. His athletic ability has given him the tools to succeed.” – Coach Terrell Wiggins

WHAT O’BRIEN SAID: “It was good to go out and get a personal record in your first race of the season. It gives you confidence. I feel really good. My mentality is a little better than it was.”
