North Augusta’s explosive offense came alive for a third consecutive game Friday night, rolling past Greenbrier to keep its hot start intact.

The Yellow Jackets scored on their first three possessions and cruised to a 45-0 win over the Wolfpack.

North Augusta’s backfield duo of Willie McCloud and Deshawn Barnes combined for 254 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, while the Yellow Jackets pounded out 337 total rushing yards.

“They compete against each other in practice and work hard,” coach Dan Pippin said.

“It was a team effort tonight. I’m happy with the finish.”

It was a change from the first two games of the season, when North Augusta (3-0) relied on the arm of quarterback Trib Reece to roll over T.L. Hanna and Midland Valley.

Reece was still an efficient 8 of 11 for 80 yards and two touchdowns.
His biggest strike came on the first drive of the game when he found Keyon West for a 23-yard touchdown.

North Augusta has totaled 133 points while allowing just nine in its first three games, displaying an explosive offense that has now used two versions to rout opponents.

The Yellow Jackets have showed the ability to adjust in-game to attack weak spots both through the air and on the ground– and the combination of McCloud and Barnes is proving effective.

“Competition is a good thing,” McCloud said. “It means we have to pick it up and work hard. We came in and worked hard for the win.”

After Reece’s early touchdown pass, the Yellow Jackets scored on runs by Barnes and McCloud to add points on their first three drives of the game, setting the tone for the rout.

McCloud found a hole and broke free for 37 yards on his first-quarter score. Barnes bested him with a 40-yard touchdown run in the second.

McCloud totaled 138 rushing yards and one score, while Barnes had 116 yards and three touchdowns.

Greenbrier (0-2) was held to 59 total yards. Running back Jamal Richard had 25 yards on 15 carries.
