Reece connected for three touchdowns to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 43-6 rout of Midland Valley.

Reece went 14 for 18 for 246 yards, his second consecutive game of at least 200 yards passing, in North Augusta’s second win to start the year. Reece threw for 300 yards against T.L. Hanna last Friday.

“We threw away from the safety; that was our plan all week,” Reece said. “I have some momentum right now, I guess, but the plan is a state championship.”

The Yellow Jackets also benefited from 121 rushing yards by Willie McCloud, including two touchdowns.

“He has to keep running hard,” coach Dan Pippin said. “He definitely ran well, and he can when he keeps running hard. I was happy with how he ran.”

Dashawn Barnes added 57 yards on the ground for North Augusta (2-0), which jumped to a 16-point lead after the first quarter.

North Augusta scored on its first two possessions on a two-yard run by McCloud and 20-yard field goal by Blake Busby. Before the end of the first quarter, Reece connected with Jaleel Bryant on a 30-yard touchdown pass.

Reece continued to connect with his receivers on big strikes in the second, as Dre Dunbar split the middle and outran the Midland Valley secondary for a 25-yard touchdown reception early in the quarter. The quarterback had 162 yards through the air at halftime as North Augusta led 29-0.

After scoring 14 points in the third, North Augusta’s offense tapered off in the fourth. Midland Valley (0-1) struck for its only score with 5 minutes remaining as Daniel Carr found Trenton Baughman from 30 yards out to break up the shutout.

“I think we did a good job overall,” Pippin said. “I wish we hadn’t given up the shutout, and we had too many turnovers. But we played well without the turnovers.”

Carr threw for 77 yards and rushed for 50 to lead the Mustangs. Derrick O’Conner added 41 yards on the ground for Midland Valley.
