PLAY OF THE GAME: Trailing 8-0 in the second quarter, Hephzibah linebacker Daryl Hammond recovered a Josey fumble and ran it back for a touchdown.

STAR OF THE GAME: Hephzibah wide receiver Darrell Baker caught a pair of TDs, leading the Rebels to their first victory since Nov. 4, 2011.

WHY HEPHZIBAH WON: It outscored Josey 22-0 during a 17-minute stretch between the second and third quarters.

WHY JOSEY LOST: It had 13 penalties accounting for 85 yards.

QUOTABLE: “We know we struggled last season, but this was the best summer we’ve had in a long time,” Hephzibah head coach John Bowen said. “Look, we still have a long way to go but I couldn’t be more proud of this group of kids. We played exactly the way I hoped we would tonight.”
