Harlem sophomore Reggie Reid has transferred to ELEV|8 Sports Institute in Delray Beach, Fla.

“The kid has done everything we asked for him to do,” Bulldogs coach Kim Chambers said. “We wish him the best.”

When Reid was at Harlem, the guard helped the Bulldogs reach the Class AA state playoffs in 2013 and was named first team All-Area in Georgia.

The move allowed Reid to potentially boost his profile while playing a national schedule. Cody Toppert, the Director of Basketball Operations/Pro Development Coach at ELEV|8, said the team competes in the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association while also playing out-of-state teams.

The player’s former coach said Reid told him about his decision on Tuesday. Chambers said he heard the move was for athletic and academic reasons, and Toppert emphasized the developmental aspect at ELEV|8.

“It’s to elevate their lives and games to the next level,” Toppert said. “We’re going to rely heavily on Reggie to run the show. He’s an explosive point guard – he creates for himself and others.”
