Greenbrier has named Jason Osborn its new head baseball coach. Osborn, a 1992 Westside graduate, was most recently the head softball coach at Lumpkin County. Before that, he was the head coach at Thomson, where he took over the team after serving as Terry Holder’s assistant. While the head coach, Osborn saw Thomson reach the Class AAA state semifinals in 2010 and 2011.
Osborn, 39, takes over for Chris Wilkins, who was forced out as head coach, with money mismanagement a reported reason.
“I’m very honored to be taking over a program that’s so rich in tradition,” Osborn said. “I’m honored I was given this opportunity for me and my family. It’s a program with a lot of expectations, but that’s what I like. I expect to do what the coaches before me have done: go deep in playoffs and give us a shot at the end to win our last game.”
Osborn, who was also named the inside linebackers coach for the Wolfpack football team, played for Gerald Barnes at Westside. Osborn said he gets to say he’s played for a legend in Barnes and also coached with one in Holder.
And now Osborn is in the area again, coaching a team that reached the state finals two years in a row.
“My wife was itching to get back home,” Osborn said. “This was one of the programs, if I had the opportunity to coach at, I would take it in a heartbeat.”
