At home against Warner Robins in a semifinal Monday night, the Wolfpack fell behind 1-0 in the first half and the Demons (10-4-2) tacked on three more goals in the second half, advancing to the championship game at Houston County on Tuesday with a 4-1 win.
The Wolfpack (10-3-3) will play host to Evans Tuesday night to determine the region’s No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the Class AAAAA Tournament that gets underway May 1.
“We’ve got to get the loss out of our heads,” said senior Scott Ball. “We still qualified for state and we have to see how far we can go in the state.”
Down 1-0, the Wolfpack came out after the break and dominated the first 10 minutes of play and got themselves back in the game, scoring eight minutes in.
Drew Fransoso’s deep throw-in from near the left corner bounced to Bryan Thompson in front. Thompson’s shot was stopped by Demons’ goalie Cody Dees but Michael Harris was there for the rebound and put it in for the tie.
Warner Robins’ Matt Monday broke the tie at 23:56, then fed Nils Bremer for the team’s final two goals. Monday was a thorn in the Wolfpack’s side all night with three assists and a goal to his credit.
“Our inexperience in the back kind of caught up with us today,” said Wolfpack head coach Chip Warren. “We ran into a team that could finish when given the opportunity.”
The Wolfpack had their chances, but were turned away time-and-again by Dees who recorded six saves.
“We had a lot of shots, but he (Dees) knows his position really well,” Ball said.
