Spartans head coach Andrew Young confirmed he has resigned from his position, completing a three-year run as the program’s coach.
Young, who went 6-24 during his tenure, has been replaced with Tim McClain, who is a former Butler assistant.
Young said time was the issue, seeing as he is also a math teacher. He led the Spartans to three wins in 2012, but added that he wants to get into administration. In the end, he just felt stepping down was the right decision, though he said he did find joy in coaching his players and helping them understand the importance of doing well in the classroom.
“I got to see the kids at ninth grade really develop to now,” Young said about coaching one class for three seasons. “And I’ll still be around to watch them play.”
He also emphasized there were no hard feelings; in fact, while he said he wasn’t sure whether he would still be teaching at Glenn Hills next year, he said he would think about helping out with the team if he was there and if the new coach would be OK with such an arrangement.
