When he was younger, Ahmed Hill thought reaching 1,000 career points was a momentous occasion.
And he still does – it’s just he’s scored much more than that. Double that total, even.
“‘One thousand, wow, that’s a big goal,’” Hill remembers thinking when he was little. “But once I got 1,000, it was, ‘Let’s try for two (thousand).’”
The Irish basketball player reached the 2,000-point milestone in a win against Glascock County on Tuesday. Hill, who needed 37 points to get there, scored 39 in the win. Because of his impressive achievement, Hill is The Augusta Chronicle’s Player of the Week.
The accomplishment led to cheers and congratulations from his classmates, and Hill isn’t close to being done. He still has this year’s region and state tournaments to go and then one more season to add on to his total.
Though he’s thinking about the possibility of reaching 3,000 points, Hill – ranked No. 25 in the nation in his class by Rivals.com – really just wants to get better. Getting to that total would simply be proof of his improvement.
“I’m staying humble,” Hill said. “I have a lot more work to do – this is just the beginning.”
