Parker Collins is looking forward to the future Southern Conference rivalry with his North Augusta teammate Trey Morgan.

On Wednesday, Collins signed to play right guard with Appalachian State, while Morgan, a wide receiver/defensive back, signed to play for Western Carolina.

“I already told Trey to watch his legs,” the 6-foot-3, 290-pound Collins said. “We’re friends, but when we get on the field it’s different. He’s going to be gunning for me and I’m going to be gunning for him.”

Collins said he chose Appalachian State because of the opportunity to play early and his relationship with the coaches and players there. He decided to be come a Mountaineer, spurning 11 other offers.

Morgan chose to join Collins a few hours away in Cullowhee, N.C. In his senior season, Morgan recorded 119 tackles and three interceptions, while also accumulating 226 rushing yards with 10 touchdowns and 411 receiving yards and five scores.

“It was definitely a good atmosphere,” Morgan said about playing for the Catamounts. “I just felt comfortable and felt I could spend four years of my life there.”

Devin Grimes, a wide receiver/defensive back who will likely return kicks and punts in college, chose Division II Benedict over Newberry and Elizabeth City State. Grimes is heading to the Columbia, S.C., school for one main reason.

“They told me I would start as a freshman,” he said.
