Butler’s Don Coleman will shoot 3s if he has to, if a defender backs off just a little bit too much.

But Coleman prefers to drive by and attack the rim. If everything goes right, he’ll get a layup or draw a foul. If it goes great, he’ll get both.

Against Glenn Hills and Richmond Academy this past week, Coleman had moments where he looked unstoppable, as he averaged more than 30 points in two wins. The first game, a 79-68 result, was the Spartans’ first loss of the season.

Because of those two games and his 17-point outing in a win against Hephzibah, Coleman is The Augusta Chronicle’s Player of the Week.

“I knew I had to play big,” Coleman said. “We came in with nothing to lose; I knew I had to have a big game.”

Coleman will either dribble past his guy or get the perfect pick from teammate Ron Jones.

Against Richmond Academy, Coleman scored 29 points and found a home at the line. He made 13 foul shots in a row in the win, as the Bulldogs went from down nine at the start of the fourth quarter to up double figures at the final buzzer.

“I know my team needed me, so I stepped up,” Coleman said.
