Burke County football offensive coordinator Jim Dye is going back to college.

Dye, nephew of Auburn coaching legend Pat Dye, has accepted the offensive line coaching position at Troy, where he previously coached from 1993-2002. Dye, who has been on the Burke County staff since the 2006 season, will leave Wednesday morning.

From 2010-2012, with Dye’s help, the Bears compiled a 36-6 record, winning the Class AAA state title in 2011. The Bears have averaged 40 points per game over the past three seasons.

Burke County coach Eric Parker said it’s going to be a year of turnover for his program, as two offensive assistants are also leaving. But he said he’s received a lot of resumes for the offensive coordinator job.

Parker added that Dye, whose son Jay was a senior offensive lineman on this year’s Bears team, simply got a job offer that comes only every so often.

“That was a great opportunity for him,” Parker said. “At the end of the day, it was too good for him to turn down.”
