Lincoln County advances to second round with win over Hancock Central

LINCOLNTON, Ga. — Lincoln County beat Hancock Central for the second consecutive game, this time in the first round of the Class A public schools state playoffs on Friday night.

Ben Turner threw for a touchdown and rushed for another to led the Red Devils (10-1).

The teams had closed out the regular season on Nov. 9, with Lincoln County winning that one 27-8.

After a week off to determine the playoff bracket, they squared off again on Friday night with a similar result.

Turner hit Zireycus Letman on a 7-yard TD pass in the third quarter to make it 14-0, then scored on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Mike McIntyre scored the Red Devils’ first touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

The Red Devils will be at home again Friday for the second round.
