After beating then-No. 3 Washington County by two touchdowns on the road, the Bulldogs remained No. 2 in the newest Associated Press Georgia high school football poll for Class AAA. The 9-0 Bulldogs received one first-place vote and also increased their lead over the No. 3 team from nine points to 17 points.
Thomson’s 28-14 win also pushed Washington County down two spots to No. 5.
Elsewhere, two area teams entered the Class AA poll. Both Washington-Wilkes and Screven County moved in at No. 10, as does Lovett. Washington-Wilkes was once as high as No. 7.
In the other classifications, Class AAAA No. 3 Burke County and Class A No. 2 Lincoln County stayed where they were from a week ago, though the Red Devils are now joined by Athens Academy at No. 2. Lincoln County is home against No. 10 Wilkinson County this week in a showdown between Region 7-A leaders.
